Damascus Maryland is a small town of about 11,500 people. It is located at the highest point of Upper Montgomery County, at the intersection of two major roads; Ridge Road (Route 27) and Damascus-Laytonsville Road (Route 108). Also running through town is Woodfield Road (Route 124). Founded in 1816, Damascus has always been the commercial "crossroads" of the surrounding rural areas.
Recent decades have seen much of the farmland around Damascus converted to housing. Commercial growth and the arrival of corporate offices to Montgomery County has drawn new residents to the area. Damascus MD's surrounding area still remains predominantly rural, however, and Damascus remains a commercial center for the rural communities of Clagettsville, Browningsville, Cedar Grove, Woodfield, King's Valley, Purdum and Lewisdale.
Magruder Trail and nearby Butler’s Orchard are some of the variety of amenities and outdoor recreational options that Damascus has to offer.
Education
The public schools in Damascus MD are governed by the Montgomery County Public Schools system. It has several elementary schools, one middle school and one high school.
